i read part of the other thread. I'm trying to get a PC built with Sonar/RME and they can't get the latency below 96ms, so I was just curious. I was warned off Matrox G550 also btw.
I have no problems with this card at all. I know I have said this before.
Do you have a specific scenario that causes this? What other hardware besides the RME spec do you have in the box?
I know you probably tried this, but I had one user having fits with his RME. I had him move it to a different slot in the PC and all problems when away. Just grabbing at straws...
I did try some different slots..one guy Opus2000 from apogee said to do it one way and to MAKE them share an IRQ, and another said to make sure they DIDNT share IRQ's and to try them on different slots than opus said, no difference either way. But even with a single card I have this problem...I built the RME reference PC but also tried other video cards
peter are you saying you have tried this with a P4 and it works fine ?
It happens to me when hitting play
clicking on the timeline to start playback never causes this freeze
I had a Hamerfall 9652 and work without any problem, now I have a Hamerfall DSP Cardbus with Digiface, and works well on my P4 laptop (But I have freezes with Vegas and Acid when I use a external Firewire HD and any sound card).
I don't try with P4 and 9652, my P4 are a Dell Laptop, and I can't plug the 9652. But I have friends with P4 and 9652, and at the moment, no issues.
When I use the external Firewire HD I have the same problem that you, the system freezes and show a window with "unable to mix audio", I have this problem with all sound cards that I was tried. I don't believe that this is a problem of the firewire, the same HD with a similar Firewire card (ADS Pyro) works well on a P3, I think in a processor interrupt issues (USB + Firewire). Another consideration, I don't have any problem with Nuendo (Asio) + Firewire + any sound card + P4 laptop (+40 tracks).
Bye
If I find any solution, I'll write you
Try on the RME Forum (This forum is follow by the RME engineers):
I've got a P3 laptop with a Hammerfall DSP, no problems.
The issue with the "unable to mix audio" message when using a FireWire drive is known to SF, I've seen it in the Video forums. Apparently it will be fixed in the next version of Vegas.
