How is Acid supposed to work with the VSTi version of FruityLoops? I cannot slave the tempo of Fruity to Acid and start/stop only works if you first start within Fruity. Also, Fruity continues from when you last stopped, no matter where you are in the grid. To get around this, you have to go back into Fruity, stop it, then start again. This makes the combination completely useless - I'm better off rendering my Fruity tracks to wav then using them in Acid (which I could do with the old version). Additionally, the multi VSTi version of Fruity doesn't work at all. Any help with this is much appreciated.

"I think Sonic Foundry should start testing their software before they release it."

How sure are you that its a acid reason and not a "fruity" one? I personally didn't think that sofo r&d thought that this would be one of the ways that VSTi's would be implemented. So far nobodies complaining about any vsti's not working right. What your running into are the same problems that I do in trying to run acid slaving to vegas via the "VMR...virtual midi router". What kind of system do you have...cpu,ram,etc... Maybe its time for a hardware upgrade? Dual cpu's,2gigs of ram? BOTH apps are VERY processor intensive. Has anybody else in the fruity forums got it to run PERFECTLY with any other app:Cubase SX,Sonar 2.0XL[especially],etc...? What were there system specs?
How many tracks/effects/loops/etc could THEY have running WITHOUT loss of sync?

Godd luck and share with us anything that you've figured out. Later.

Thanks for the reply! Acid 4.0 has only been out a couple of days so I'm not surprised that there are no complaints yet. If both apps adhere to the VSTi standard, then they should work together. So far as I know Fruity works well with other apps like Cubase. Hardware is not the problem. I've got an 850 Athlon, 1 gig RAM and can run both apps simultaneously along with Soundforge, mail, browser, etc.

I kind of wonder if Acid was even beta tested with Fruity at all. Anyway, I've never posted to Sonic Foundry tech support before. I certainly hope someone from the company responds.

I've been checking out the Fruityloops VSTi in ACID 4.0. Works to a point.

You need to first go to Options>Preferences on the menu bar. Click the VST Instruments tab. Browse to the folder where you had the Fruityloops VSTi installed to. (You should have been asked by the Fruityloops installer if you wanted to install the VSTi plug-in and where to install it.)

Fruity should then show up in the list to be available as a soft synth. Click OK. Click "Insert Soft Synth" in the Mixer window. Choose Fruityloops VSTi. That should be it.

Now, the only thing: I can't seem to get Fruityloops to shut up after I playback a project. Other than that, it's fine.

OK. Seems that I have to let the project play all the way to the end in order for Fruityloops VSTi to stop in ACID.

in all other hosts, the buttons in the host are the same as the buttons in fruity.
you press stop ANYWHERE in Cubase, Fruity stops. if you move your cursor to another spot, and press play, fruity is still in sync with the project.

Acid sux for this right now.

Agreed. I will wait for an ACID bugfix before I consider this upgrade. For me, ACID is the perfect Fruityloops companion. If the two won't fly together, I'll have to save the $99 to go toward Cubase or Sonar, since ACID 3 meets all the needs I purchased it for.

I've tested Fruity VSTi in Cubase, Orion, Nuendo and n-Track Studio. They all work perfectly, as far as "perfectly" goes. ;)

So ACID PRO 4.0 needs some work.

I didn't say that was the way that ACID works with Fruityloops. It's obviously a bug. Sure, I can stop the project in ACID anytime I want, but then Fruityloops just keeps on going.

I don't intend to rock the boat or anything, but a factual heads-up: Cakewalk has a competetive upgrade promo on until October for Acid owners to crossgrade to Sonar 2.0 for $199US or 2.0XL for $299US. And of course you get to keep your Acid license. So if anyone is thinking of integrating some of Sonar's good points along with Acid, this is a good cost savings.
