Welcome to the SoFo registry quirks.
It's probably from an older install / multiple installs. You MAY have to call tech support.
I get this same crap with the MP3 codec, but I no longer care....

let me know what they say or if you find a work around / fix.

thanks

Hmmmm... sounds like someone may be using a cracked copy...

If you're getting a 'too many intalls.' prompt, then that means that someone else has already registered it, if I'm not mistaken. The MPEG Vegas plug in & mp3 Acid/Forge options (I believe) require you to register before they are activated.

Not to be too judgemental, but if you're using cracked software, you get what you deserve.

My copy is legitamate and paid for, but another Sofo app might still cause this if it uses these codecs. Perhaps from registering it from another PC using a diff. name???
What is cracked?

David! I think we both can agree that VV3 is a product worth buying. I can assure you I am using a legal copy of VV3.
I have been forced to format the harddrive on my machine several times the past couple of weeks due to a hardware problem and installed VV3 again each time and went through the registration process, that could be the reason. Maby SF has a limit to how many times you can do this? Also my machine is a dual-boot at the moment, windows 2000 and windows xp on seperate partitions and VV3 is installed on both partitions. Is this a problem? Does anyone know?

That MAY have something to do with it....if maybe you registered multiple times from both OS's?

i have registered on two different machines and i never had a problem
and i have formated both pc's multiple times
if you have a legitimate copy--call sofo and they will help
good luck

I have reformatted my hard drive several times over the past few years too. I'm not sure how many activations you are given but I had to get my activations reset for Vegas & noise reduction. Call sonic foundry & they will reset your activations. The only way you might have a problem is if they see the program was activated from several different e-mail addresses. If you've been honest, you won't have a problem. They have always been very helpful with me.

I have only used one email address at all times and made sure to write the same information during the registration process when I have had to reinstall VV3. Contacted customer support at SF by email and sent also copies of the order confirmation emails I got from their online store when I bought VV3. Just waiting for a reply at the moment. Actually this same thing is happening with my ACID 3.0, but Soundforge 6 is working fine. I am just totally lost.

I've run into this a couple of times with two SF products. In both cases, I just called their 800 number and got to the registration department. They were very helpful in giving me additional registrations so I could get back to work. I am one of those guys who tinkers with the best config, re-formats, and so on. I asked SF if they had a way for me to uninstall VV3 so that it could give back a registration, but they said no. Anyhow, their customer support for this issue is very helpful.

I am in the same position as Ronlucas, I am a re-format fanatic ;). Whenever my system start to act quirky, I just re-install.
I recently encountered the "too many activation" issue so I e-mailed customer service and gave them my "username, e-mail etc,,," data. They checked and e-mail me back with a new serail number...nothing to worry about.

I recently had to uninstall and reinstall VV3 numerous times due to a driver conflict with my graphics card. I used the download version 3.0c and had not such troubles using the same registration number multiple times. Are you installing from the version you got on the CD? If you are try using the latest update (3.0c) download, maybe if there is a bug with the registration process in the earlier version it is fixed now.

there is a way. I think you just need to save the right registry branch. you could use the 'register from another computer' option to get the appropriate .REG files sent to you and then use them over and over to activate Vegas as much as you like, as long as you don't change your PC name or username or system drive name... something like that. the magic key is based on that type of information. the info was posted here a while back.
