Subject:Vega 3 and Sound Forge 6 don't start

Hello,

I wanted to give a try to the new version of Sound Forge 6.

It simply doesn’t start on my desktop but does start on my laptop.

One major difference is that I have a TV card in my desktop (Pinnacles PCTV) and I saw in the readme file that that if you have a Hauppauge TV card you should delete the extmondrv.dll and since many TV card have the same TV chip I decided to give it a try but it dosen’t change any thing…

I see the Vega or Sound Forge 6 logo after I chose to start as demo and then after a few second my computer stop working only the mouse is still moving, but when I click with the mouse the computer freeze…

Any idea?

This is a small hardware list of my computer

PIII 866 on an ABIT BE6-II
512mb Sdram 133mhz
ATI Radeon 8500 (BBA driver version is Catalyst 2.2)
SB-Live ! with the latest drivers
Pinnacles PCTV driver 5.10
All this under Windows 2000 SP3

Note : my laptop is also under Windows 2000 SP3 and it is an HP OmniBook 6000, not really suited for sound editing since it only has 128mb of ram and a slow hard drive.

Thank you.

Alex B.

CROSS POSTED in VV Forum.

Yep. I'm suffering the same thing. I would venture to say it has something to do with Win2k SP3. I hope the SF techs can look into this. This is not just a fatal error, its a SYSTEM FREEZE. Yes mouse moves, but nothing else responds. I even tried the hotkeys for shutting down, which can work in situations when it just a graphics image freeze.

Nope, this one requires pulling the plug. Which isn't very often with Win2k. I will try uninstalling the SP3 to see if it is a reversable issue, or not.

I heard it's a problem with the second ATI Cayalyst release (02.2). I guess it only affects W2K and XP since my Sonic Foundry apps work fine in 98. Try rolling back to the original Catalyst and see what happens.

Thankyou. I think you are right. I just tried a brand new Winxp OS, I had just put on the ATI latest drivers, installed Vegas, and Stall. Hum... Shame on ATI.

Yes you are right, I uninstalled the 02.2 driver from ATI and it is now working fine...

ATI just released Catalyst 02.3. This should fix the hanging problem many people were having with Catalyst 02.2. Pass the word.
