Geez, why do companies do this?!?!? Why would you annouce something everyone needs and is looking forward to and not give it to them in a timely manner? What is normal here: two months? two weeks? Propellerheads announced Reason 2.0 in Feb and came with it in June, for God's sake! What is that about?!?!

The waiting is killing me. (Mostly 'cuz I'm at the breaking point as far as my studio setup goes...it's either gonna be Acid 4.0 at the helm or Sonar, Cubase or who knows what else...gotta get those MIDI needs met, you know.) So give a brutha a break...throw us a friggin' bone already...at least a date...I'm hovering around my computer like flies on roadkill.

Hey there buddy,

It's called marketing strategy. Look at it from Sonic Foundry's position. Get a product "almost" ready and then announce it. What that does, is it gets poor saps like you and I drooling all over ourselves in anticipation of the product release. We're sure to buy it then. My guess is that at least half of us Acid users will blindly get it just because it's there. Maybe Sonic Foundry is banking on all the hype creating a landslide of sales. According to some of the things I've read about the company, they are not the most financially stable organization out there. It wasn't too long ago they laid off a bunch of people. Frustrating as it may be, it is none-the-less very effective marketing. We're just too caught up in having that American "I want it yesterday" mode of thinking. Be patient. It WILL come. I've wanted it for a while too, but at the same time, do you really want a product that isn't finished? I recall several months ago in these forums people were badgering SF before they even announced 4.0 was on its way. Hopefully your livelihood isn't being affected by not having 4.0. If it is, you really should get something else.

Another reason to anounce an upcoming product...potential sales. Either new or repeat customers.

Say you own a 97 Honda Accord, but you're itching to buy a new car. You go see the new Camry and are impressed by its specs. On the way home from the test drive you see a billboard advertising the brand new Accord coming soon. Aren't you going to hold off on buying that Camry?

Peter just finished the quantizing like, last night! I don't think they're sitting on their collective cans--they need the cash as bad as we need the product. One of the SOFO's said "a couple of weeks" a few days ago. That's probably the scenario--they have to get product out before the Tour so we're looking at the last week in Aug as a drop deader.
