Ok.. this is not directly related to VV..
but i need to capture the screen output of a piece of software for a demo video. i was just planning on outputing it to tape via the TV out on the ATI video card. but the max screen resolution is 800x600. Anyone have any other ideas, like a video screen capturing software?

thanks!

John,

The only app I've used that does that is Lotus ScreenCam. I haven't used it in a long time & don't know if it's compatible with Win2K or XP.

Another company, Qarbon does something similar http://www.qarbon.com/ - I've never used it but it looks cool. They support all kinds of OSes. Looks kind of expensive too.

TechSmith, authors of the popular SnagIt screen capture software have Camtasia http://www.techsmith.com/products/camtasia/camtasia.asp (I've used SnagIt, that's a nice app)

Finally, here's another one I heard about 'Camcorder' http://www.window98.com/KeyScreen(s)5/camco97.htm

Good luck!

John, just a question on your resolution note ... Even if you could set your ATI card to output to TV (or VCR) in higher resolution, keep in mind that VHS only has a resolution of about 200 or 250 lines, so you won't see pixel level detail anyway. Even if you could capture it digitally, most digital distribution media is limited to 480 (576 for Pal) vertical resolution.

If your concern is to have more room on the screen to work in, then by all means look for a higher resolution capture method while keeping in mind that the final video output will be much less resolution. If you are looking for pixel accurate reproduction at higher resolution then Video (tape, DVD, etc.) probably isn't going to do what you want.
