Personally I like NI's Kontakt, but it really depends what you want to do with it. Have a look around here:

Reviews, comments, links etc. A great resource.

I've used Speedsoft's VSampler DXi and it works great, and is dirt cheap. I assume the VSTi version rocks as well. The new 3.0 has ReWire!

I've used VSampler as well and it confused the hell out of me, but then, Maruuk I'm sure has a lot more experience with such software. At the very least I can tell you it's full featured. Like a program in-and-of-itself. I've been tweaking around with the PlugSound libraries lately. They've got some freaking amazing sounds. The nice part PlugSound/UVI isn't a group of synthesizers, but rather a collection of grogeous samples within an incredibly easy to use interface. Each library has around 600 MB (as much as 5000 samples), and they're all absolutely gorgeous. They're only $100 a pop though at Big Fish Audio. There are some demos to be downloaded if you'd like to see for yourself.

Hope this helps,
Nick LaMartina

thnx for the info
i have some cool ideas i want to do to remix music and get cool beats
but i know my dr boss sampler just isn't going to do what i want it to do
what i really want to do is assign each key---a, b, c, d, etc a different part of a song or just some spoken word sample
then i can add and build a song (remix) as i go along
does any of these programs you guys mentioned do this?
also, i am brand knew at this so technical support is a must
hehehehe
i will temporarliy relocate to the city i buy the sampler from
thnx

If you've got a whole collection of wav files (music, words, drums etc), you can just define the lot with your mouse and drag and drop them onto Kontakt's "screen". Kontakt will automatically distribute them across the keyboard. This sure beats having to set low and high notes for each sample.
