Subject:AC -3 encoding with Soft-Encode

Is it possible using Sound Forge or any other media program out there to take an
AC-3 Dolby Digital 5.1 music file and convert it to an MP3 or other similar media format? Thanks for any help anyone can give on this matter.

Hi,

YES, go look in the IN for HeadAC3 and/or BeSweet (both Freeware, GPL). Based on a common GPL AC3 decoding engine the software does a very high quality 2.0 downsample incl. creation of Dolby Surround information for analog multichannel surround decoder. Mostly used in the DVD copy/backup scene in combination with MPEG4 Video Encoder.
