Subject:SF 5.0 and Win XP Lock-ups Please Help!!

I am using Sound Forge 5.0 on my Win XP Pro operating system, and it has been operating fantastic for around 6 months or so. For the last couple of months that I have been trying to use it problems occur when I try to preform any action...play or edit any file I have loaded. Once the lock up occurs I have to manually turn the power off at the switch on the back of my computer...(Just short of unplugging it). Once I reboot and try to reopen SF5 it recovers the work that was last done but subsequently locks back up again, and so on and so on. This has been very frustrating and I have had to result in going back to SF 4.5 to get any work done.

I have tried to repair it through windows but no luck..I have even uninstalled and reinstalled to try and start from scratch, but once again the problem remains..

Any help that I can get would be appreciated I am beating my head against the wall trying to get this figured out.

You stated that the software was working correctly for a while and now it's not, especially on playback. What have you changed on your system since this problem started occurring? Any new hardware or software? Make sure you have updated the drivers for your sound card. If your whole system is locking up to the point of a reboot, sounds like it could be hardware related. Also make sure you have the latest version of Sound Forge 5.0 installed. This would be 5.0F and is available from www.sonicfoundry.com/download under the updates section. If you are at this version, we would recommend you un-install what you currently have and delete the following folders C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\Sound Forge 5 - C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry Setup\Sound Forge 5 as these folder may contain system files that could remain. Hope this helps.
