Subject:Removing Echo or Flatness in Speech

This is really two questions: 1) I have several recordings of lectures. These lectures are sometimes recorded in a church which causes echo. Can I remove or reduce this echo from the speech? 2) One of my recordings the speaker sounds flat or even muffled. What is the best way to sharpen up the sound to make things more clear? Tried Smooth/Enhance but it doesn't seem to do the trick. To much enhance eventually distorts the sound. (SoundForge v6 and NR v2) Thank you - |

For reducing echo, the best bet is probably a noise gate (under Effects) with a fairly short release time. You'll probably find some good settings just through experimentation with the controls. However, this will only remove echo during pauses, since it can't remove background noise that's "hidden" under the stronger signal. For the second question, I would use some equlization (under processes). Try narrow bandwidths, with a reduction around 200-800 Hz and boosts from about 5 kHz upwards. Again, trying different settings is probably the best way to find a solution for your particular problem. |

rcg audio has a good enhancer that can fix the muffled speech. The settings on it are easy to play with, and it is very good at picking up the high sibilance and not increasing the noise from tape or whatever. It is free and can be downloaded at their web site. RiRo |

Are you talking about the High Frequency Stimulator plug in from rgcAudio? The link to them is http://www.rgcaudio.com JBJones |
