I got 135 hits by searching for "remove vocals." I also printed and carefully read (twice) answer #6 on the FAQ page of this forum. Since we still get this question (despite the above mentioned resources) about three times a week, I thought I'd take a shot at a solution. First, I tried using noise reduction by capturing a noiseprint at the hottest part of the song and then applying a 100% reduction, but I got these cyberbird chirping artifacts. So that wasn't going to work. Here's what I found does the trick: 1) Open the song you want to remove the vocals from in Sound Forge (if Sound Forge is not open, be sure to open before attempting step #1) 2) Double click on the wave in Sound Forge to select the whole song. 3) Go to PROCESS>VOLUME and go to the preset dropdown list in the Volume Control window. Choose "[sys] Mute" from that menu. 4) Click "OK" Don't worry about previewing. I've tested this on several different songs, and it ALWAYS removes 100% of the vocals! |

...and everything else too. (I hope that's a joke...) actually, for a legit answer, if you know the song is stereo, and the vocals are mono and right in the middle of the mix, double click either the right channel wave OR the left channel wave, then "invert/flip" on the process menu. most if not all of the vocal should be gone (except for any parts that were panned right or left). then convert the resulting stereo file to mono. |
