Subject:Sound Forge 5.0 RUNDLL Error

When I click on my SF 5 icon, I get a splash screen of SF 5, and the taskbar has "RUNDLL" in it. Behind the splash screen is a box that says "RUNDLL - Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\SONIC". I click the "Okay" button and the RUNDLL disappears and SF 5 main window pops up.

Sometimes, I get a Crash Recovery box that asks me what to do with my files. Sometimes, it just opens. Either way, when I click on the record button, I get this: "Sound Forge - An Unknown Error Occurred Creating The PCM". I can get record to work if I open a wav file in SF 5 and then select record, but the recordings are full of clicks and pops. Originally, I thought it was a buffer issue, but I have experimented with different settings and synchs with my soundcard, to no avail.

I recently stripped my registry and files of all APro 3 & SF 5 software. I reloaded everything and made sure to include the updates from this site. The first time I loaded this stuff, I forgot to update APro 3 completely, and only remembered to load SF 5 a week after the fact.

Now, I get the RUNDLL error with both apps! APro 3 never did anything wrong before. I am not exactly a computer whiz, either. Oh, I am running all this on an HP Intel P3, 600 Mh processor, 256 Mb RAM, 30 Gb hard drive, on XP Pro that has been tweaked for audio.

Did I leave anything out?

Windows 2000 or Windows XP, right? Do this:

1. Go to Start--->Run. Type in Regedit, click OK.
2. Go to the following location in the Registry Editor: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem
3. On the right side you should see NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation. Double click that.
4. Make sure the window says Hexadecimal, then change the 1 to a 0.
5. Close Registry Editor, reboot the computer, then reinstall the program.
