ok, I'm taking 3 800mb files, copying and pasting them into one big file. I can copy file 2 to 1 and save it fine, but when I add file 3 I cannot save the file. Now I can copy 3 to 2, then when I add file 1 I cannot save it either. It makes no sense. When I try and save it the error i get is "a program running has modified the contents of this file and it cannot be saved" or "file type not a recognized file". WHAT? I have never encountered this before and it's killing me as I need to work on these files. Anyone seen this before? |

If this is 6.0, make sure you've installed the 6.0a update. |

I have the same problem you have (I think). The problem is that you are trying to save a file (.wav, I presume) whose resulting size after saving would be greater than two gigs. For some reason, SF6a doesn't allow that. Since I record very long files, I made a reference to the maximum size timewise a standard .wav file can be so that it saves to at most two gigs, since anything greater will generate an error: _____________(44,100, 16-bit Stereo)_____________ That is 3 hours, 22 minutes, 52 seconds. _____________(32,000, 16-bit Stereo)_____________ That is 4 hours, 39 minutes, 37 seconds. _____________(22,050, 16-bit Stereo)_____________ That is 6 hours, 45 minutes, 47 seconds. I haven't tried all three out, so it could be a little more less. I have an NTFS WinXP system and thought file sizes wouldn't cause problems, but apparently they do. Try saving the file in a different format (RealAudio, mp3) if you can, and contact tech support if what I have said doesn't apply to you. I've recorded a twelve hour file (44.1, 16-bit Stereo)to RealAudio without problems. EDIT: On my system, SF6a can edit file sizes 6 Gig+ with extreme eaze, but doesn't save anything past 2 gig's. I don't know if it applies to all systems. |

BecauseofYou: you might want to conider saving to PCA (perfect clarity audio) format. This is a lossless codec created by Sonic Foundry. There will be no quality loss whatsover (as compared to Real or MP3), and the files are only about 1/5 the size of uncompressed WAV files. |

The maximum size for a .WAV file is 2GB, regardless of operating system, disk file system, etc. It's a feature of the .WAV format and you just have to accept it. If you want to save files larger than 2GB you can use the .W64 format which is SoFo's extension of the .WAV format using 64-bit chunk sizes rather than the 32-bit ones used in .WAV (which lead to the 2GB limitation).
