Need advice on over-modulated file (not clipped) -Sound Forge - PC

Overall the graph looks fairly thick but with no real peaks or valleys. I have SF6 +NR2. What is the best tool(s) to restore the over-modulation? I tried normalize, and EQ, but neither seems to be that great. THanks in advance. Dave

Do you mean the sort of distortion you get when the signal level is too loud? Usually it means that somewhere along the line the signal was made too strong for the medium carrying it, and the peaks have been clipped. Even if the current file doesn't have peaks touching 0dB, it may have happened at some point. You would then have clipped peaks that are well below 0dB. Zoom in closely and look at the higher peaks; do they look flattened? If so, then clipped peak restoration is definately in order.

Please go look up what the term "modulated" means in audio terms and get back to us on the question. Would it be Amplitude modulation? or Frequency modulation? and what is the carrier signal of the modulation?

Try Clipped peak I think it is in nr2. That will do the job for you.
