Can you use ACID on a Macintosh running VIRTUAL PC?? -ACID Product Family

Subject:Can you use ACID on a Macintosh running VIRTUAL PC?? Posted by: JETT Date:11/22/1999 10:47:00 PM Just seeing if anyone has had any luck running ACID on any PowerMac or G3 or G4, or iMac system that runs either Virtual PC by connectix or SoftWindows??? How many tracks can it handle and will it reckognize a particular sound card?? As much info as possible is needed. I work for a major music change and this info can greatly increase my referrals for ACID to my MAC enthusiasts (Including myself!!) I hope I can get response from sonic foundry tech support as well. Tech Support does not regularily monitor these forums. Those of us who work at Sonic Foundry who do respond to messages on the forums do so more or less out of personal interest...not out of job responsibility. I can tell you--very unofficially!--that I have personally heard reports of people running ACID successfully in emulation on the Mac. This is not an "official" endorsement by Sonic Foundry for anyone to do this, and Sonic Foundry does not support any problems you may encounter running our software on the Macintosh. But it may be worth a try. It can work, but we can't do anything for you if it doesn't. If this is the route you want to take, use a demo before buying. Emulation is just not going to be fast, even on an otherwise speedy processor. I've used VPC4 on a 400Mhz G3 running ACID Pro. It worked, but it was too slow to use DirectX plugs. AGAIN, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS. We're coding for the Windows desktop platform running on Intel/AMD chips; not emulators pretending to be the aforementioned.

Having said that, what is th cheapest route I could take in buying a PC that would allow me to run ACID 3.0 well? Do you have suggestions?

We just got in a 1.2GHz Pentium III PC with 256MB RAM, 40GB 7200RPM drive, DVD drive, 12x4x40x CD-RW, Windows ME (ok, not so good, but they should be shipping with 2K now) for $450. Monitor wasn't included, but keyboard, mouse, & speakers were. This is a killer machine for ACID. Check their website for what they have available this week. We've picked up a dozens systems from them so far and all have been very good deals.

I can tell you--very unofficially!--that I have personally heard
