my problem: my girlfriend just kicked me out of her apartment (boohoo, i know) and away from the computer i installed my pro software. she has since trashed all the stuff of mine that was there, including the registration paperwork. so, i have the disc but i'm f***ed as far as installing it on my new computer goes. so, like i said, if anyone has any brilliant ideas please reply or email me at foshay3000@hotmail.com. i'd appreciate it.

Write to customerservice@sonicfoundry.com ... if you can supply enough information, like the name & eMail address you used when you purchased/registered the software and the approximate date, they should be able to set you up with a serial number.

Next time print out the serial number information and keep it in a safe place. Back it all up to a CD and take that with you too.

Or if you're not too paranoid about security store all your passwords and such in a webmail account like Hotmail. That way if your PC is destroyed your data is safe off-site.

<<different pc = different registration # >>

Incorrect. I have a 2 PC setup in my studio running the same SoFo apps (the 2nd is primarily for high res mixdown, backup and CD burning). I didn't need different reg. #s for this. You just need to register again with the same #(s), name, email, etc., (as you do with a reinstall). I recently installed a new system drive in my main computer and somehow had misplaced my Sound Forge reg. #. I called SoFo and they emailed me my # within 2 minutes!

not to be argumentative, but sf states that the registration number (not the serial number) is based on the computer id.

<<sf states that the registration number (not the serial number) is based on the computer id. >>

Correct, my mistake. However, when I replaced my system drive all I needed was to type in the serial # when I installed the apps and do the quick online re-register. Nice and easy! Thanks SoFo!

(Have you ever been through the reauthorization nightmare with Waves?)
