I think you're going to have to rephrase the question if you want a meaningful answer. Give some details - hardware, software, and what it is you're actually trying to do.

MiniDV tapes do come in 83 minute size. Or, if it's not too important, use 63 minute tapes in EP mode.

I'll take a stab at it.

Use WMCAP, the capture program that is in the Microsoft DirectX SDK and is floating around the net. You can specify an exact number of seconds to record and it'll automatically stop at that point. Combine with a macro scheduling program and you can get it to launch automatically at a specified time too. I use this method to capture Loud episodes on Muchmusic every Saturday night whether I'm around or not. :)
