It looks like the pencil tool works on one track at a time, whereas the paint tool lets you move up and down across multiple tracks while you're painting. |

The Paint Tool is useful for painting a loop's entire event in one click. (You hold down CTRL+click where you want the entire event to appear. Make sure the Paint Tool is active.) This is great especially for One-shot tracks. (Using the same method, you'd right-click instead of clicking to erase an entire event in one swoop.) The Paint Tool will also merge separate events together simply by painting over the break between the events. The Draw Tool is more apt for other functions other than the usual drawing function, such as being able to slip an event (hold down ALT while inside the event, then click and drag left or right), or slip-trimming an event (hold down ALT while on the edge of an event, then click and drag left or right). The Draw Tool is also useful for standard Windows copy and paste commands. (Hold down CTRL while clicking and dragging an event, which will copy the event.) Iacobus |
