Subject:30-yr-old tape to CD - Restoration project

I need to transfer a 30-year-old college band tape to a CD.

The original was recorded at 3-3/4 i.p.s.

Tape hiss is prevalent in the left channel because it was under-
recorded. The right channel has significant hum, but was recorded
fairly hot.

Should I apply noise reduction to each channel separately, using its
own noiseprint?

Since the left is at a much lower volume than the right, should I
normalize them separately?

Thanks

I would say yes and yes. With that much difference between the channels there probably isn't much point in giving them identical processing.

Thanks for the confirmation. Using separate treatment for each channel seems to be working better than I had expected, especially considering the original quality of the material.
