Subject:stereo to 2xmono

I am transcoding a lot of stereo files and need to have them as pairs of mono files (for positioning in the sound field).
Does anyone have a handy way of doing this please?
I know I can merge two monos to make a stereo but how about the other way round?

The quickest and easiest way to accomplish this is to double click in either the left or right channel of the stereo file, and it will select the entire channel. Then just drag that selection out of the current stereo file and it will create a new file of just that channel.
