Ax, This is already avialbel in Acid Pro 3.0: 1. Choose File->Render As 2. Choose a folder , a file name and check "Save each track as a separate file" 3. Click Custom 4. Change the channel type to Mono and click OK 5. Click Save 6. All items are rendered to separate mono files Of course - you must have Acid Pro 3.0 for this to be available. And if the loop is a strange stereo loop like bass on the left and drums on the right in one clip, I believe both channels will be combined on the render. Hope this helps. Cheers, Cuzin B |

CuZin, Have you ever render stereo tracks to Mono??? This is the more destructive thing to do!! No, A stereo Track can definitvly not be render in mono "as it!" You need to render Left & Right Channel of each stereo tracks! If not you loose the stereo and all the space !! So ACID reaaly need a option for rendering Stereo in 2 mono files::! Thanx for your help )) |

Ax, I agree on the destructive nature of stereo to mono...but it's just a combo of left and right anyway. Acid won't let you split out left and right from a single stereo loop (I haven't found it yet). You should always be working from copies anyway when exporting or changing channels. Cuzin B |

Sorry this is a little late... but Pro Tools does allow you to import Stereo Files, or at least my Digi 001 system does. Check out the user help on file import. |

Right. Protools imports stereo files. But I am beginner with Acid, and I want to know about the files synchronization in Protools. |

No, actually ProTools does not import stereo files. What it DOES do is: takes a stereo wave file and divides it in half -meaning an interleaved stereo file has the left AND right channel in ONE file but ProTools divides it in half---> -meaning ProTools makes one standalone file consisting of the right channel and one standalone file consisting of the left channel---> -meaning the ONE stereo file you imported is now TWO MONO files from ProTools. which is why the the Digi001 I just bought HAS to go back to GuitarCenter. They say 24 tracks but they don't tell you it's 24 MONO tracks or 12 tracks(stereo L-R pairs). What Ax is asking is for SoFo to do the de-interleaving of the stereo files ahead of time. My advice would be to download PTFree and use it to de-interleave your files. |

I don't mean to bust anyone's bubble, but that's what Sound Forge is for. ;o) Sorry. Couldn't resist. Iacobus |

what does Sound Forge do? De-interleave stereo files? Since when? |

When ANYTHING is listed as n-tracks (ie. 24 tracks) they usually mean MONO tracks, because STEREO is made up of two MONO tracks. (ie. A 24x8 mixing board consists of 24 MONO inputs and 8 MONO busses, which could be translated as 12 STEREO ins and 4 STEREO busses). I don't know what you mean exactly by "de-interleave" in reference to STEREO files, but Sound Forge can be used to split a STEREO source file into two MONO files. (I do know what de-interleave means, just not in reference to a STEREO sound file). |

Sound Forge is SoFo's digital audio editor. I always suggest to people that if they get ACID, then pick up Sound Forge as well (or any other audio editor like Cool Edit or WaveLab). (Sound Forge XP Studio, the little cousin of Sound Forge, comes free with ACID Pro. Not quite as powerful though.) You just can't master your audio without one. I use it all the time to tweak and create material. You can split a stereo track in a couple of ways. One way is to use the standard Windows copy and paste method. Another is to right-click the Stereo box on the status bar and choose which channel you want. You can also use the Channel Converter command for more control over how much one channel can be mixed into another (great for creative panning effects). Iacobus |

An interleaved audio file is a stereo sound file or digital recording where the data making up the left and right channels are mixed together as one contiguous block of data. To "de-interleave" would be to split them or divide the two channels into MONO pairs again. ProTools, DP and Peak, for example, can't work with so-called interleaved stereo files, preferring split stereo instead. However, if you do try to import an interleaved file, these will make the format conversion for you. You get 2 tracks for the one you imported. "When ANYTHING is listed as n-tracks (ie. 24 tracks) they usually mean MONO tracks, because STEREO is made up of two MONO tracks. (ie. A 24x8 mixing board consists of 24 MONO inputs and 8 MONO busses, which could be translated as 12 STEREO ins and 4 STEREO busses)." NO software I've ever used or read about refers to n-tracks as meaning mono tracks. Sonic Foundry, in reference to Vegas and Acid for example, offer unlimited tracks and these unlimited tracks ARE interleaved stereo files NOT a left recording and a right recording. Same for Sonar, Cubase, Samplitude, etc. With hardware, this is definitely the case. But if software advertises "24 tracks", I expect 24 STEREO tracks. Boy, this thread is gettin' really weird. Everyone's gotta hold their ground, mark their territory, so to speak. I'm here to learn and share knowledge, not get involved in these pissing contests. I wonder does anyone actually investigate what they have read or do they just react to the post with their fur up? Anyway, I'm tired of typing these posts and no one's getting anything out of 'em anyway except fuel to be contrary. Have fun, guys. |
