Subject:Anyone want a book on Music Composition in Acid?

Just wondering if anyone would be interested in me writing a book on how to compose music with Acid. I would very much like to, for myself. I am wondering if others also share this interest. As a composer and avid Acid user, I think I can offer a lot to this field and really enliven the quality of compositions made with Acid. Thoughts? |

post it on the web instead. there are books already on the market. you'll be taking that a step further by allowing us to interact with the author of the page. i am currently building a website that needs helpful insights and articles. i'd be happy to get some help. |

What is your website about exactly? Please realize that the content of my book would be considerable, although I will admit that interactive HTML and Flash would help get points across. Plus, I have the 2 acid books on the market, and neither comes close to the idea that I have. Actually, my book's purpose is to begin where those other books end. Know how to use acid and knowing how to write good music are 2 different things. My book would discuss things like how to create melodies/basslines (using the chopper), or select bass + drum lines that interact, how to choose a good tempo and key, changing keys and tempos, how to write in different styles, how to bring structure to a piece, advanced syncing, etc. Basically I'd putting forth my knowledge on music composition and apply it to acid. This will be no light topic for sure, as you can see. One good thing about a website though, is that I can post loops on the site directly for the examples in the book. Any more thoughts? |

"Good music" is a subjective thing, so my advice would be to stay off that one a bit (you may rock your own world, but you don't rock mine, etc.) Otherwise, I think a series of "how to's" would be beneficial. I know I was pretty linear in my thinking until I started looking at 8 packs and how the bass lines or other loops would be chopped and rearranged. Plus, understanding how Acid transposes, etc. makes a big difference too. As for structure, I think Acid has revolutionized music. I think it has played a big part in what we hear in movies and on TV. As a song writer, I was always big into the A-B-A-B-C etc. With Acid, I feel more like an arranger; like a sound artist as opposed to a song writer. Sounds like you have a lot of the advanced techniques down. Couldn't hurt to put them down on paper and see what happens. You could even self-publish using PageMaker or something and convert it to PDF. I've actually purchased "books" like that before. Good luck. |

I'm sorry my language wasn't clear. By good music, I meant simply improving the quality of whatever you already write. I'm not gonna force any one to write like me, and the biggest philosophy of the book would be experimentation! But certainly, a good knowledge of EQ or musical forms could improve anyone's sound! That's all I meant. :-) So would you all be interested in a PDF? |

Great idea. I use Acid with Pro Tools LE and agree that reading a manual is very distinct from how to make good music! Please let me know if this takes off, and how to access it. Thanks. |

I sure would. I love to see community efforts in environments, like we had with the akai dps12 group, and it really helped in the learning process. I would also throw in my .02 cents throwing it on my web site and turning it into pdf if you need. Bob |
