When I try and scan for Devices, try and extract audio from CD or burn, my XP P4 turns off and reboots. I can extract audio with Acid Pro however. Is this a software glitch in SF 6.0? |

You mean this isn't listed in the added features list for the SF6 release? Before I had to wait for my computer to freeze before I had to reboot my system, now it sounds like SF6 does it for you automatically before the fact. LOL :-) |

I have a LG CD/RW CED- 8080 B 8X/32X/4X My drivers are up to date. I have XP Home. I just installed SF 6.0a and it still crashes on me. I have Roxio's EZCD Creator 5.1 Platinum and it burns CDs fine, but Id really like to have the "extract CD audio" feature in SF working. Any ideas? |

Here in Studio 1 I have a Acer 40x, Yamaha 16x on Win98se and a Yamaha 24x, Sony DVD-RW on Win2k they all rip without a problem. Have you tried changing your temp folder to another hard drive Preferences>Perform>? George Ware |

it's probably having a nasty kernel fault.. and by default in XP, when it does a memdump it reboots automaticly.. so you can turn of the automatic rebooting.. i think its under my computer->properties->advanced->Start up and recovery->uncheck automaticly restart. |

nope that didnt fix it, i also tried making a new temp folder in my other dirve where I store audio. Didnt work either. Now, when I try and scan system for devices, I get the blue screen of death with this message. STOP: 0x0000008E And: EUSBMSD.sys Any ideas now? Thanks! |

I get the same thing with SF 6.0 beta. SF 5, on the other hand, can extract audio from the same CD drive (a Plextor 40/12/40A) just fine. I had assumed it was just a bug in the beta version, but if the full version does it too I'm not happy (I just ordered the full version yesterday). Hal Laurent |

I finally have it working now, I believe the fix came when I disabled the auto insert notification for my CD Drives. i had to go into the REGEDIT and make some changes. A good place to find excellent system tweaks for XP is here: http://www.musicxp.com I used all their tweaks and my system is running great now. No problems. |

brokenrecords wiffed just a tad on that URL. It should be: http://www.musicxp.net/ Couple of worthwhile tweaks, mostly just how to turn off all the XP "fluff". |

Here's the "temporary" solution to your crashing SF 6.0 with the "EUSBMSD" problem - the cause is that eusbmsd.sys is a driver used by SmartMedia, SCM Micro (SanDisk, etc.) The EUSBMSD system file is a bug in a device driver and NOT Sound Forge's error. The Solution is to go into device manager (Windows 2000, XP) and deactivate the SDDFC device in the USB area. This is a temporary solution, but it will prevent SF 6.0 from crashing during the CD extract scan. Just remember if you want to read SmartMedia data, you must go back into Windows device manager and "reactivate" the USB device. Hope this helped. George |

I just came upon this after posting a question about this very same problem. Whether gj45 says it's a problem within SF or not...it only happens under SWF6.0. When I uninstall 6.0 and reinstall 5.0 on the same computer...everything works fine. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck..... |

Bought the upgrade but have had so many screw ups I use 5. Running Windows 2000 on 1.5 Mhz with 1 gig RAM. Shouldn't be this way but software junkies need their Jones... Peter |

...So what's is the deal SF? Apparently there's alot of users with this problem (ones that have already shelled out for V6.0). Is there a planned fix for this?, We shouldn't have to dig deep into the OS to start experimenting. Same computer, same CDR/RW drive, crashes like like a drunken Indy Car driver under 6.0, works great in 5.0. |

Brokenrecords-- Do you have a USB smart media or compact flash reader connected to your system? I believe EUSBMSD.sys is used for one of those devices. If you use the Unplug/Eject Hardware dialog to stop the USB device and then try extracting/burning, does your machine still crash? Thanks, Kevin |
