fuzziness in view screen........

debzilla wrote on 6/14/2002, 3:24 PM
Love reading the posts!!!!!I have also been doing lots of cool FX combo's.....it's just amazing what you can achieve with some experimenting....i can't believe this was sooo cheap! Anyway...for some reason my viewing box, (bottom right hand corner) has gone a little pixilated. Every thing is else is fine, I don't think I have changed any properties or size or anything. Any suggestions??
Also I found a way to play and event backwards.I did a capture while rewinding, but it would only work in analogue, then put the file back into video factory....hard to explain as I tried so many things, i don't know if I could actually repeat it!
Thanks for any help.

Deb,

Put cursor on preview window and right clip on mouse. You'll get a drop down menu. Select what you want - Pixels or no pixels - Project Size etc etc.

Please remember the reverse video....

Hi Grazie!!!! What time is it there??? thanks for replying. I tried a bunch of different combos in that window...the only thing that makes it clear is to click on project size.....then it changes to 50% it is clear but to huge! The fuzzy one is at 33%, and I don't seem to get any other option. The pixilate option doesn't seem to do much. Its just strange that it was fine before. I can live with it though.(I lived through VW....didn't I!)
The reverse thing.....i have to check with the person I was doing it with, but I think we were trying to capture in rewind from my DV camera and all we got was blue screen, even though it looked like it was working. Then he got the brilliant idea to capture in analogue, and I don't know exactly what he did, but it did accept the clip, then we slow mo'd it and it was Fabulous!!!! We were so excited and happy I didn't ask! We were doing a set up of a display and wanted it to assemble itself...so we needed the skeleton frame to expand all on its own, and the only way to do this was to hold it up and film it collapsing, then run it backwards....
Did you buy your camera yet? I have a Sony 530...I love it...and they have great support! It was about 1200 Canadian.
Thanks for all the info...you are very entertaining.....wouldn't it be great to have an international VF conference! See what you can do! I think Hawaii would be good!

Debzilla/Grazie,
Try this idea for the reverse capture...turn off the digital camera control in the capture options menu (while in the capture mode, select options, uncheck the control digital device box), press your camera forward button to start the tape, start the capture, then with the camera and capture running, press the reverse (or rewind) button on the camera. This should cause the tape to run in reverse as if you were searching for a scene. Since the capture program is just collecting the data coming through the pipe, it should collect the video (not the sound however) as it is coming through the firewire. I'm not at home now so I can't check this myself. Let us know if it works.

Oh Great DEBZILLA!

Hawaii, Paris, San Fran, Alpha Sentori.... we are only constrained by our imagination! Nah ... let's do it in Real Time! "See what you can do!" - you obviously believe I've powers beyond my means - Steady on there "Debzilla". What a cracking email tag! Am I going to have fun with this one!

"Long ago in the mists of time. When strange, hairy, large and lumbering beasts stumbled through vaguely dodgey looking '50s film sets.... there came a beast, ..so awesome in its size and ferocity. So feared by its weaker - slightly smaller hairy beasties thingies - that all fled before its thunderous footfalls, heard many miles away... And then it would be ..... TOO Late - Arggghhhh!" (Will somebody save me from this film script NOW!)

Thanks for the plaudits... yes, I am frightfully entertaining - aren't I.

Anyways. Nope, no new camera yet. Saw some local film students wandering the streets round these parts with a Canon - 3CCD; Manual focus ring; looked reeeeally neat. Have been thinking about the DVD cammies as well. But, this week have been doing some serious housekeeping. Got myself a superb chrome shelfing/racking system to hold all my widgets and gizmos. And, and an analogue TV monitor ready to have a another A/v vcr attached to it. So.... this week I've been soughting myself out and generally getting my house in order. - That's the trouble with us "failed" Virgoans - it's gotta be just right or not until everything is in place etc etc. Sometimes I think its an excuse for not getting on with things. Don't you? However (what was I going to say? oh yes) I do feel better having done it, clears my head for those majestical creative flashes that rise up before me - "Grazie calm down - have you taken your medication yet!"

"We were doing a set up of a display and wanted it to assemble itself" - Love your description of your working process and your actual creativity behind it. Is there anyway we could collaborate on a project? - Don't know how - don't know when - But, where there is a will .....

Oh, on your preview quality thingy, of course you have tried the "Quality" drop down window for Best - Draft Quality - Preview Quality? I've found I've had to muck about with this drop down menu in conjunction with the one we spoke of earlier.

Oh, the time here was 9:00pm ish when I wrote last.

Happy Camming - "VF Rools Okay!" "VFers do it in Real Time!"

I like the idea Debzilla, Hawaii would be nice. I've always wanted to visit the States. I'll have to think of somehow justifying it to the 'trouble and strife' (cockney for wife) though. 'I'm just popping out to a conference, dear, I'll be back next week'.
Welcome over from the Dark Side.

Thanks all you guys.....Grazie(Are you Italian?) stew(Aloha!) Laz.
Do you want to see a project???Go to http://www.wendellfreguson.com/ph1_frm.html
Or just go to Google or whatever you use and look up wendell ferguson guitar welcome.
Look under press kit. Wendell is a musician/comedian, this was filmed at a little Toronto club...with no extra lighting and the earphone plug in from the camera, hooked to the sound board. Edited entirely with VF....Wendell loved it....Our motto is.........
"Quality!?, not at these prices!"
I do mostly tribute and biography videos from still photos, so this was a little different.
Watch the whole thing...its funny!

Personally i think we should all meet up in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of New York state in the fall to see all the lovely autumn colors :) But that's just my own personal opinion.

Chien.....i guess we should switch this topic to "where shall we have the conference" seems everyone wants it at thier place. Except me...although if it was going to be in Canada I would choose Whistler B.C. still 3000 miles from me, but worth the trip. Maybe VF could hold a contest and we could all submit videos of why it should be at our choice of destination.Like an Olympic bid!!! yes I do have a vivid imagination! I will be in paris and Amsterdam in July, if anyone wants to have a mini conference!
Also stew in hawaii......every place I go seems to have that way of making you want to stay....its happened lots of times!

Deb,
Know what you mean. Have been lots of places and they all have their charm...even Riyadh. Hawaii just has that magic for me...tried to leave once but returned after a couple of years. Every day is absolutely perfect in paradise. Have fun in Europe. Stay away from the red light district in Amsterdam and check out the Luve (spelling) in Paris. It's awesome!
Aloha,
Randy

Debzilla,
Just watched the guitar welcome video. Nice. Professional job. Cool intro and ending. I guess the flames on the title was done with a special effect. Was it Vegas or some other?

Hi
I love this forum, as well as helping each other out, it feels like a membership of an international club. I would love to go to Hawaii, Canada, America, ect, but will have to wait until the three kids grow up. How about bonny Scotland thats where I hail from, beutifull scenery and history especially Edinburgh where I am sitting writing this. And dont forget the wild haggis hunts.

Hendo,
Scotland is one place I haven't been...but will someday as I'm part Scotish. Come on retirement and freedom to travel. Do you have any video clips of the area you can post on Chienworks site?

Hey Andrew I was born in Edinborough! Actually have some cousins visiting from there now! I was born on East Thomas St. I don't think it exists anymore.Near Leith Walk. We came here when I was two. I was just making "Tablet" as a matter of fact.(Scottish fudge)
Sorry, I know this is a problem solving forum.....but it's great getting to know everyone too. Should we start a new section called "Just Chatting" or something? Don't want to piss any one off!
And, of course I will be going to the Red Light district! as well as the Louvrrrre!

You're all more than welcome to hang out and "chat" in realtime at my website. Of course, the chances of us all showing up there at the same time are probably slim.

I would say that if anyone has problems with the social aspect of this thread, then they don't have to read any more of it. :)

Hi Randy
I havent done anything in Scotland yet, its mostly holidays, birthdays ect. It is a good idea, and I will give it some thought in the future. Debs I havent had tablet since I was a kid, I seem to remember it was extremely sweet, it must have been a nightmare for the dentists. I was in Amsterdam a couple of months ago "stag weekend" and the red light district was a laugh, just shows how much the British are prudes.

Chien...I went to your website....very nice.....I see your "motto" is similar to mine!
Andrew....my poor visiting Edninburgh cousins are getting crappy weather!! Cold and rainy. The last time I saw this cousin we were 12 and I have a picture of us inside "Mons Meg" the cannon at the Castle....then I was there four years ago and wanted another cannon picture, but it was all roped off.I'm always getting in trouble at Museums...seems the french don't like you breathing on their art. I might see if I can get a cheap flight to Edinburgh, show my seven year old, his heritage.
Now for some VF stuff...I did a life story thing for an 80 year old womans birthday, a present from her kids. She gave me a ton of cool stuff. I had a bunch of telegrams from the war, so I filmed them in sequence and used the page peel transition and superimposed Winston Churchill and then her picture in overlay and had them flying off the page. They loved the vid and though I gave them three copies they asked for five more! I have two more anniversaries to do this month, and may soon be able to afford more memmory.
Anyone else have a unique effect they did, that they are particularily proud of, and want to share???? I'm always looking for new ideas!
