Subject:Sound Forge 6 or Cool Edit Pro 2?

I own an older copy of Cool Edit Pro and was cosidering upgrading to the latest version which claims to support up to 128 tracks. Too many for me, but I heard SoundForge only supports one stereo track (not enough). I own VV3 and qualify for the upgrade price. Why should I go with SoundForge6 over Cool Edit Pro 2 for recording and mixing. Thanks in advance.

Sound Forge is an editing program, not a tracking program. If you're happy with VV3 for tracking, I'd go with SF6 to diversify -- but it's not a "record and mix" app, it's a "record & fix"...

It seems that Cool Edit is more like a mix of editing and multitracking (I didn't work with it, though). Sound Forge is just for editing, but there is SF Vegas, which you can use for unlimited number of both audio and video tracks. It is possible to do some detailed editing, but the main point of it is multitracking.

Well, one difference is that SF does not do multitracks, but you already have the companion W3 for that. So, it is really a matter of your own experience with the interface and how certain details are handled by one or the other. If you do a search in this forum you can find previous discussions on this subject. One thing in favor of SF is that the level metters are active when you preview effects, but the Group Waveform Normalize of CEP goes one step further (in comparison with Batch Converter) in producing a complete CD with the same (RMS) volume...

Good luck
