:) not toys but tools. most were bought because i needed a certain sound. like an actual tambourine vs a sample.

one thing i learned years ago was to keep everthing instead of trading them in because there's no way i can replace an item for what they give on trade.

Can you suggest a sampler/sequencer for someone just starting? I've been using Acid and Sound Forge to do this, but I am having compatibility/export issues while using a Roland 2480.

I was looking at Emu, Korg, and Roland Grooveboxes... what's the best and easist to use?

As for my equipment, I use Acid 3.0, a Zoom PS 02 for vox... and that's it!

Thanks in advance

ccottrel:
You should think about starting a separate topic for this question, maybe a another site. These software forums probably aren't the best resource for studio questions. You may want to join Sweetwater's forums and search the archives before you ask questions that have been covered many times.

Samplers and sequencers don't have much in common with groove boxes. The older groove boxes did not sample. The newer ones may. If you are referring to the Korg ER-1, EA-1, and ES-1 as groove boxes, you are mistaken. They are shaped like groove boves and look like groove boxes, but their functionality is rather specific. They have sequencers built in to control their internal tone generators or sample playback engine.

I use Sonar for a sequencer. It supports DXi's and VSTi's with a wrapper, but I use it to drive my hardware equipment. I like it and would recommend it.

I am working on phasing out my Emu ESI-4000 sampler. I want to work on a PC with a full screen to edit samples in Sound Forge and place samples. I have GigaStudio and it's power is in accurate reproduction of instruments. It's not a tweaker's sampler. I'm looking into Kontakt, Halion, and others. The best thing about software samplers is that you can try them out on your PC-DAW and them migrate them to a dedicated soft synth and sampler PC when and if necessary.

I'm not familiar with your Yamaha, I don't know how many outputs you have on your computer, and I don't know why you would want to do what you are doing, but...

You can Render As and "Save each track as a separate file". You then need to get the wave files to your Yamaha.

If you have multiple outputs from your PC, you can route different tracks to different outputs and record them in your Yamaha.

If you have a single output from your PC, youcan solo the tracks and record them one by one to your Yamaha. You may have sync issues to deal with in your Yamaha.

No easy options, but that's what separates the men from the boys.

My 1200's are both silver and if you don't look for the spare cartridge holder and pitch lock button or read the model numbers, you would think they were the same. I'm cool with them that way.
