what are your system specs? processor, motherboard, amount of ram, soundcard, operating system, size and rpm of harddisk?

Hi ATP,
cheers for showing an interest
the soundcard is a soundblaster live value - processor is a celloron 400hz - pc has 256mb ram - windows 98 and a legend motherboard.
never known how to find out the rpm of the harddisk (which I suspect might be the problem!)
Also have 2 IDE hard drives - one 8gb and another 60gb
thanks

It could be your processor, in my opinion Celerons aren't very good for digital recording. Usually the rpm speed is on a sticker on your hardrive.

it also depends on what kind of tracks you use. if for example they are 5 one shot tracks of complete songs your 400 mhz cpu will not be able to process all that real-time.

i worked with a celeron 400 for a long time, and i noticed when i used too many samples, or a lot of big ones, i would get the same skipping problems you have.

however, if it are 5 normal loops it should not be a real problem, unless of course you're using a lot of DirectX plugins along with them.

but your cpu seems to be the bottleneck. i'm afraid a big update of cpu, ram, and motherboard is required for more extensive producing. :/

thanks all for the advice - I think that you are both right, my system needs a overhaul, well atleast the processor and possibly the soundcard - just abit odd though that I can run an uncountable number of audio tracks in Cubase with a number of plugins without a similar problem with the sound occuring.
