Subject:Recording Settings/Audio CD Quality

Hey Gang:

Just curious, is there any advantage to recording at higher sampling frequencies and bit rates?

I normally stay with the standard 44,100 Hz at 16 bit, but if I step up to higher settings (example: 96,000 Hz at 32 bit) will that increase the quality or dynamic range of the audio when burned to audio CD? Before I start burning some bad CDs, will higher settings convert to CD audio?

If anyone can share some insight on the subject I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for sharing your expertise.

Joe

i think increasing the bitrate (from 16 to 24 for example) is good if you want to apply effects to the file afterwards. they will be processed in 24 bits, rather than 16, which is just a little better for the sound.

if you, however, have ripped a cd digitally and want to burn a copy, there's no need to convert it to 24 bits.
