Hi Ted, 6.0a still seems to have the cursor, cursor playback, zoom and rendering problems that a couple of us here at Dolby are experiencing (also with 6.0Beta and 6.0). See my previous forum thread: http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=103994 Lance Linimon from Sonic Foundry has my phone number so feel free to call me. We've dropped back to SF5.0f until the problems get resolved. Thanks & regards, Michael Smithers mzs@dolby.com |

Michael, Your problems could also be related to your video drivers. Try updating those as well as your sound card drivers. You may also want to try uninstalling Sound Forge 6.0 and installing only 6.0a. Sorry if I am covering anything that you have worked with Lance on. This is most likely related to your system though, because nobody else has reported this problem. Ted |

do you still get a dx menu in sf 5 in xp if you install 6 ? is there a dx menu in 6? do 3rd party plugs show up? If you use "open copy in sound forge" from vegas, and make a change in sf6 can it save? nervous from last time...hope all is well |

... oh the same "old" error with ACID (that started back to SF6.0) - when i start it i got message that 'an error occured starting ACID. The reason for the error could not be determined' - so it seems that ACID also have to be updated - maybe it shares same buggy components SF6 had? |

Yes, those symptoms sound to me very much like they are graphics driver problems rather than anything to do with SF itself. Although I did not have those exact problems when I upgraded from SF5.0f to SF6.0 I did experience a display problem. Many (though not all) of the icons on the toolbars, transport controls, etc, were corrupted - they appeared as squares filled with random nonsense rather than showing the correct icon. Having seen this sort of thing before I guessed it was a graphics driver problem and went to look for a later driver for my Diamond Viper V550 and found that there was a later one available than the V.4.10.01.225 that I had been using (and which had shown no such problems with SF5.0f, Acid 3.0g or VV3.0a). I upgraded the drivers to V.4.12.01.0368 and the corruption was fixed - everything now displays just as it should. I'd guess that a graphics driver update (assuming there is one available for his graphics card) will probably sort out Michael's problems too. Mark |

>do you still get a dx menu in sf 5 in xp if you install 6 ? I don't know about XP but yes in 98se & Win2k >is there a dx menu in 6? I like the DX Favorites MUCH better than the DX menu 1,2,3, Reason; I have my mastering plugins set up in a folder called Mastering. I added the plugins that I use the most so I don't have to go looking for them. I have others like Reverbs,Delays,EQs and NR folder with the stuff I use for Noise Ruduction. The DX Favorites menu can be all cleared out by clicking on Recreate by Plug-in Name. Sometime if you don't see a plugin that you just installed try clicking on the Recreate by plug-in Name,99% of the time this works for me because of the betas that I install and un-install. >do 3rd party plugs show up? Yes Waves Cakewalk Sonic Foundry Hyperprism DX iZotope PSP VintageWarmer RBC TC FreeFilter Timeworks WaveArts Fusion Filter and Vocode >If you use "open copy in sound forge" from vegas, and make a change in sf6 can it ?>save? Yes just tried it on Win2k to make sure >nervous from last time...hope all is well. Its cool Aaron, give it a try. George Ware |

Hi Ted, We've experienced the problem on 3 different machines (with both 6.0Beta, 6.0 and 6.0a), each with different video cards and OS's. 1) Dell 2x1.8GHz Pentium4 Xeon, 1GB RD-RAM, Win2kPro, MatroxG450 Video Card (latest drivers) 2) Same as above with NVideo GForce2 card 3) Pentium3 300, ASUS Motherboard, ATI Video Card running both WinXPPro and Win2KPro. Could someone please give me a call or, email me at mzs@dolby.com and I will send you my number. Best regards, Michael Smithers |

Hi Ted, I think I've narrowed the rendering/zoom/cursor/playback problem down a little. (for v6.0Beta, v6.0 and v6.0a). I can only get the problems to occur if I open files as .RAW (WAV seem to be ok). Could someone try verifying this? My guess is that it's related to the generation and/or reading of the SFK file. Regards, Michael |
