With SoundForge 6.0 I can open, edit and save a normal MP3 sound file, but it does not support the MP3-PRO format, like CoolEditPro 2 and Nero. Does anyone know a plug-in for the MP3-PRO format ? Thanks. |

I only know about the official ones, like the one for Winamp, and some in other programs, like the ones you mentioned, and the one in NERO Burning ROM. I had suggested support for mp3PRO in Sonic Foundry's software, but have yet to see it. I am making the same proposal again: please support the mp3PRO format in your products! |

AUTHOR'S FAQ INDICATES 22.05 DATA RATE I uncovered this core piece of data in the authors's faq. They apparently hope to smoke it past the casual reader, since they parsed their words making the facts virtually undecipherable. Better read it TWICE! BTW: My ears hear the difference between 22.05 and 44.1 just fine, and 22.05 sounds TERRIBLE to me. Not a trade-off I would want to make. """"" Why does a plain mp3 player show 22.05 kHz sampling rate instead of 44.1 kHz when playing an mp3PRO file encoded at 64 kbps? Why does the mp3PRO player show 22.05 kHz sampling rate instead of 44.1 kHz when PRO is switched off? The mp3PRO bit stream includes two streams. One of the two streams carries the mp3 information for the low frequencies below 10 kHz. To reach the highest quality at the low data rates a sampling frequency of 22.05 kHz is used for the mp3 stream (like most mp3 encoders also do). A standard mp3 player using only the mp3 bit stream therefore shows a sampling rate of 22.05 kHz. Switching off the PRO option at the Thomson Demo mp3PRO Player/Encoder converts the mp3PRO player into a standard mp3 player. The player then only decodes the mp3 bit stream and displays the sampling rate used for mp3 part of the bit stream. """"" |

Personally, not without seeing or hearing verifiable A:B testing. You guys may want to support it, and if not you should be able to argue alternatives! |

The question on mp3Pro is basically not the quality, it is the file size. You can really get a mp3 128kpbs quality in mp3pro for half the size of a mp3 file. And I think this format is cool because it is still compatible with any mp3 standard player even if you don't get a high quality. |
