Subject:Saving Edited Files

Whats up with saving files once you edit them?
Lets say I want to edit a song already on my hard drive. I edit it and try and save it and it wont let me, I have to rename it. Is there a parameter I need to set in preferences to make this happen?

Could it be the old 'files read from a CD are read only' problem? You save to hard drive from a CD and some versions of Windows sets the atributes to readonly.
I still get bit by that one now and then.
