I already use AcidPro3 VV3 and SFXP4.5. I'd like to go to SF6 for the "extract to regions" auto-save of multiple wav files ! It's just the sort of thing I spend tedious hours doing - extracting multiple wavs from one long file. I suppose $US199 is a good deal ? |

If you are moving from XP4.5 to 6.0, then that is a very good deal. Does it also include the Noise Reduction 2.0 plugin? For me, I already own and use SF5.0 and have all the SF DX plugins including the NR 2.0. So the upgrade fee ($149.00)to SF6.0 does not present a good value in my situation. Maybe if it included CD Architect like CD burning and was more reasonably priced (like $69.00) then I would be more interested. I think I'll wait to see what SF7.0 brings to the table next year as I have everything I need in SF5.0. Billy Buck |

No, just SF6 (I think the US$199 deal is because I'm already a registered user of Acidpro3, XP4.5 & VV3)... One other thing...I was thinking of getting a nice reverb plugin, probably the Timeworks 4080L, but since that costs US$119 maybe should forget about that and use SF Acoustic Mirror instead ? Can anyone tell me what they think of the Acoustic Mirror in comparison to dedicated reverb plugins ? And is it really just a reverb (in practical terms) ? |

Acoustic Mirror is awesome if you have the horsepower to use it. I use it all the time for all kinds of things...however - it's not the be all and end all to reverberation. Does require quite a bit of tweaking and setup to use effectively - but once you have it set...it's great. I have the Timeworks plugin as well..and I tend to use that plug a lot...it really is an excellent verb for the price. Works real good inside all SF apps. Cheers, Cuzin B |

CuzinB you haven't helped ! :) :) You make both sound indispensible. My thinking was I can afford to get SF6 if I decided not to get the Timeworks 4080L - so I'd use the AM instead.... |

Sorry pal! Trust me - you are going to want them both anyway. If I had to make your choice - I would definitely get SF6 first. The new nondestructive editing alone is worth it. Like I said - if you have the horsepower - Acoustic Mirror is there for you. You can always grab the Timeworks later. They also have a demo too. Have you tried the Timeworks demo to make sure it's for you? And I forgot to ask - do you have a multitrack app like Vegas? Or are you just going to use the verb for tracks inside of Soundforge? Everything loos appealing to me, that's my big problem. Yes, I use VV3 and I've got the 4080L demo - a nice sound but a pity they include only a handful of presets. Is the AM really that much of a CPU hog ? ...and thanks for your advice ;) |

The load on Acoustic Mirror all depends on the impulse you choose to use. I frequently go to a few select (small) drum rooms/carpeted rooms to give my drums/pianos and guitars some nice space. However - if you decide to put up a Carnegie Hall impulse for all your work - good luck - the CPU will be dying trying to calculate everything. So the key here is modest use. This tool sounds wicked but it's really easy to get carried away (especially if you have about 300 impulses to choose from) One of my favorite tricks is to assign Acoustic Mirror to one FX bus in Vegas and move different impulses in and out until it sounds good. Using the Assignable FX allows me to bring all my instruments in this one "space" making for extremely realistic recordings...kinda like the whole "band" is in the same room... Cheers, Cuzin B |

>>I would definitely get SF6 first. The new nondestructive editing alone is worth it. And I forgot to ask - do you have a multitrack app like Vegas?<< >>Yes, I use VV3<< Then, what do you really need SF6 for??? You have BETTER non-destructive editing already in VV3 - it will completely out-perform SF6 in this regard. I am in close to the same situation. I have VV3, Acid Pro 3.0 & SF4.5 (full version). I have N/R 1.0 & do not have Ac Mirror. I would love to have N/R 2.0 & Ac Mirror, but can't make up my mind if the SF6.0 upgrade price is really worth it or not since I don't use them all that often. I am looking hard for a REAL benefit to having SF6.0 over 4.5. Plus, I am afraid that if I load SF6.0, it will disable 4.5 and I will lose the ability to use CDArchitect (VV3, conveniently, won't burn CDs for me - isn't that nice?!?). I hounded SoFo quite a bit after SF5.0 came out to get their act together & bring SF into the non-destructive world. That was before I started using Vegas. Now, I use Vegas for virtually ALL of my editing. There is only one thing - editing wise - that SF can do that I REALLY wish Vegas could do: Pencil Tool. Other than that, Vegas wins - hands down. I'm leaning toward the upgrade but CERTAINLY NOT for SF6.0's non-dest. editing ability. It will be to get the other toys that come with it. JL OTR |

JL, I hear ya on the SF/Vegas comparison. I have and use both but until Vegas can: 1. Edit Tempo for Acid files 2. Extract Regions to Separate files 3. Mute...Insert Silence...etc etc 4. Let me activate the friggin' Magnify command by pressing CTRL 5. And a bunch of other stuff I can't think of right now I am staying with SF6. In my line of work (broadcast voiceover), SF rules for repeated cutting, clipping and processing...especially the Regions/Playlist functions...So unless I have really missed the boat here on something - Vegas can't touch SF for this type of editing. I look forward to any insight/shortcuts you can provide if I have missed something here... Cheers, Cuzin B |

I have SF5.h, SF6 and SFXP running together on an 800MHZ/Win98SE. Some folk don't realise that CD Architect runs inside XP (which came with it on the disc). I continue to use CDA for all CD burning and will till I'm forced to stop. The main advantage of SF6 is that you can lop the first 2 secs off a 2 hour file instantaneously. If you have 4.5 for the purposes of CDA, do get SF6 and run them both. Acoustic Mirror can be "auditioned" in a lower quality mode for slow machines like mine, and then applied at full quality. If you need another Rev (and you will), try the free version of Anwida http://www.anwida.com. At the price it's amazing. My 2 cents worth on a wet Friday morning Cheers Weka |
