Vegas 3.0a causing explorer.exe to crash in XP

Hi,

I have a weird problem going on. I have been using Vegas for months now no problem on a Sony Vaio 590G. My son actually locked my computer up and I had to reset it with the recovery discs. I started having problems playing back MPEG2 files with Windows Media directly after installing Vegas 3.0a. When I took Vegas off, they play fine. The error is as follows:

5-10 seconds into the video (MPEG2 720x480 DVD Ready file) a box pops up and says "explorer.exe has encountered an error and must close". The video keeps playing as the task bar disappears and reloads. This happens everytime..... as long as Vegas Video 3.0a is on the machine, but once I uninstall it, everything works fine. Also the error message referances ntdll.dll. Anybody having this problem with WinXP?

P.S. I have an MPEG2 encoder card in the machine, which the MPEG2 files were created with. Maybe MPEG codecs conflicting?!?!?! Thanks for your help...

I've seen this too. Since it is a Microsoft created dll, who knows. <wink>

I haven't crashed from this while using Vegas Video however Windows Explorer and Media Player can go down when this is called. Boy am I rusty, isn't this used for time caculations?

Anyone else seeing this, got a fix?

Sidebar: A new "feature" in Windows XP (maybe was part of NT, I never tried that) is sometimes when an error happens you can just move the error warning box over to the side and things continue to work in spite of the error. That's weird.
