Wow, this is so lame. So we pay $300 for a "new" version of SoundForge, and we have to turn on 8.3 filename creation for our WHOLE computer just to make this program happy.

Sonic Foundry should fix this. Sonic Foundry sure makes some buggy/rule-breaking software, and at their prices it's unacceptable:
- I have to use an *old* ATI video driver for my 8500DV All-in-Wonder just to
get the latest versions of SoundForge6 or VideoFactory2 to just LAUNCH.
I don't have this problem with anyone else's software.
- I have to turn on 8.3 filename creation to get SoundForge6 to launch without
errors.
I don't have this problem with anyone else's software.

I wish these guys would make their software compatible with the hardware and software that's out there.

Yonkiman, what planet are you on? I have yet to find software that doesn't contain some bugs. If you don't like buggy software, what are you doing with a PC. OR do you have a Mac already? Mac apps also have some bugs by the way, just not as many.

I don't mind bugs (when people are actively trying to fix them). But when software has known bugs, and the vendor's "solution" is to have you change settings in your PC environment instead of fixing the bug, I get a bad taste in my mouth.

Turning on 8.3 filename creation to make SoundForge work is not "the solution" - it's a compromise that slows down my filesystem for EVERY bit of software I use to accomodate SF6 not being truly 2000- or XP-compatible.

Using an older video driver to make any Soundforge product work is not a solution either: the solution is for Soundforge to fix whatever non-standard thing they are doing that's causing the problem.

I simply don't appreciate it when a software company charges me megabucks for their software, then blames my system when their software has a problem. If they said "oh, thanks for the info, we'll fix that in the next release" I'd feel better, but these problems seem to linger for multiple releases.
