Is anyone else finding a problem with the above combination?

There is no list of DirectX plug-ins. Anywhere. "DX Favorites" should appear between Tools and Option on the file bar.

I've managed to get it to appear by opening a file, and then opening the plug-in chainer icon on the open window's transport bar, selecting 'Add plug-in to the chain', and then messing around with the DX window (eg- adding/removing plugins from the DirectX list to the favorites list). This seems to bring the DX Favorites drop-down list back to the file bar, but once Sound Forge has been closed, the "DX Favorites" goes away again upon next SoundForge use, and similar messing around is required to get it back.

This, shock-horror, works fine in Win98/ME. Anyone else have this?

Damn weird...

It works under 9x for me too, I haven't tested 2k, but 2k rarely gave me grief. just that strange XP problem...

Is it possible that you are using a Restricted or Guest account in XP? I'm not terribly familiar with the ins-and-outs of WinXP security, but I imagine this is some type of registry access issue. Not that it isn't a bug, but you may want to try running Sound Forge as an administrator at least through a successful plugin scan before attempting to use non-administrator accounts.

Interesting suggestion, as not having admin status can certainly screw some programs up, but I always set up XP/2K/NT with admin status, when it's for my use, so that's not the problem in my case.

I noticed in the Preferences->Internal (the hiddem tab), there's an option "Auto populate favorites folder on something-or-other" (not sure about the last bit, it's too long to fit in the window). I can't try this, as I'm back on WinME/98lite now, but I wonder if setting that option to 'true' would coax the "DX Favorites" pull-down list to appear automatically, as a temporary fix?

It looks like an issue with some XP setups though....

yes! i'm having a similar problem in winXP pro!

the "DX favorites" menu wasn't there. i bought the sf6 & noise reduction pluggin bundle and was looking for this pluggin.. couldn't find it.. so. i opened up Cubase.. went to the DX pluggins, saw noise reduction, opened it, said wierd.. then opened SF6 back up and there the menu was! ..

I posted a problem i'm having with an error message also, and i think it's related.

But even tho i can see my dx menu.. I STILL DON"T SEE NOISE REDUCTION PLUGGIN!

what a joke...

another strange occurance with winXP and SF6. I like to have the task manager minized in the system tray.. ever since installing SF6, it does not show up in the system tray anymore!

So i fork over some $$ for the update and sh!t is going haywire.

please someone from sonic foundry help us !

the only account I have is admin's account - so i run SF6 under admin and the problem is the same - I think it (missing DX-menu) started back to latest sf5 builds. Also i have to admire that when i start ACID it reply with "unknown error" message - so it's surely something wrong with SF products, since i can use all my DX-plugs in other host applications.

i have the same problem. the very first time i opened SF6 after installing it i saw the DX Favorites tab. i closed SF, reopened it and the tab was gone. i haven't been able to recover it as of yet.

however, all DirectX plugz i installed are still available using the plugin chainer, which i access by clicking the appropriate button in the window that holds the wave file.

and yes, when i fire up ACID in XP Pro it occasionally (not always) gives me an error message as well. when i click it away ACID continues to start up normally tho. go figure. :)

Hmm... seen enough evidence to suggest some Win XP teething troubles. Okay, Sonic Foundry, get that 6.0b update going. :D

Clearly there is something strange going on and we will look into it further. In the meantime, am I correct in assuming this is *just* a problem with the DX Favorites menu? That is, are plugins showing up as expected in the Plug-In Manager window (View->Plug-In Manager, DirectX folder), just not the menu?

I just want to clarify that the DX Favorites menu is significantly different from Sound Forge 5.0's DirectX menus. It is (er...should be when it's working) essentially a _user_ defined list that we happen to fill in on the initial run, organaized by name, for convenience. If new plugins are installed, they won't show up in the menu until you manually add them or auto-recreate it. However, all installed (and compatible) plugins should always show up in the Plug-in Manager view's DirectX folder and can be accessed from there.

Someone mentioned the internal pref "Auto-populate favorites folder on app restart" which should be safe to play with (if you wish) while we sort this out.

my Noise Reduction 2.0 pluggin is not showing up when i goto View->Plug-In Manager, DirectX folder.

Altho it shows up in cubase. i haven't tried acid pro 3 yet as i haven't installed it yet.

the strangest thing to me is the disapearing task manager in the system tray...

>>am I correct in assuming this is *just* a problem with the DX Favorites menu?

That's all I found, I think some people might be having trouble with plugins not showing up at all, but the main problem seems to be the DX Favorites menu not showing until you've opened the DX Manager and buggered about with the favorites subfolder...

PS- While I'm thinkin' of it, the Tools->Sampler option: In SF4, you couldn't access it at all, unless you had a file open. In SF5, you COULD access the option even with no file open, so it would allow you to import a sample (the export option would be greyed out if no file was open). In SF6, it reverted back to being not available at all unless a file was open, even if you only want to import. Could we have the SF5 way please? :P

We were never able to reproduce in-house, but we think we've found the culprit. Should be fixed in 6.0a.

Cool!

...and the sampler thing? I know it's only a minor functionality niggle, but ARGH!!! :D

Fudge. I didn't realize this had been changed. You're also supposed to be able to close a TAO disk without a data window open. I don't think this will make it for 6.0a, but will be taken care of in 6.0b. Sorry for the inconvenience.
