Subject:SF 6 and docking the 'chainer'

I'm feeling quite stupid today (yeah I know - what is different) but I can't seem to get the plug in chainer to dock or stack. It only floats. Am I missing something ? The quick start man. and the full man. say that I should be able to dock/stack the thing.

The Beta chainer was dockable. I had it (and still do. Gotta get around to
buying the upgrade) docked on the right side of the workspace so that when it's
open, I have the wave on the left half, the chainer on the right, and the meter
underneath horizontally. I've grown quite fond of this set up. I hope the actual
release didn't make the chainer undockable.

Page 10 of the quick start manual... "The following windows can be docked: .....Audio Plug-In Chainer" . Page 20 of the full manual says the same thing. Either my manuals are buggy or the full (paid for) version is because the audio plug in chainer won't dock left, right, up or, down. Other than that I love SF 6.0 !

they should have changed it in the manual, because as far as I know it is now undockable. It was in the beta, but no longer is.

I like it better this way. I found myself moving the chainer a lot and it would dock when I wouldn't want it to.

If you hold the control key down while moving windows around they wont dock.

Could they not change the docking procedure, instead of holding down the Ctrl button to prevent it from docking to actually dock when you hold down the Ctrl button, that way you would be able to drag the windows around without having them docking all the time.

I quite like that idea, Stammel.

I can't get the chainer to dock for love nor money, although I can get the plug-in manager to...?

Ok, here it is again: the chainer does not dock. This is not hypothesis. I asked them, and they removed that feature. Wether it comes back in 6.0a or b is up to whether enough people complain to have it put back in.

I like the ctrl-dock idea as well. Comments from SF?

plug-in chainer is dockable. hold down the ctrl+shift key while selecting options, then preferences. in the "internal" tab change the setting to "true" in the make plug-in chainer dockable line.

Thanks for the feedback on this. We've been reading this thread, and will likely change this functionality to be more in line with these requests in an update. In the meantime, JackField's suggestion for how to dock the chainer does work, and shouldn't introduce anything bad, other than the window trying to dock more frequently than you may like. Of course, always use care when messing with internal prefs, as making changes there means you're moving into untested territory, or to territory that HAS been tested, and decided that the values in the prefs are *necessary* (that's why they're left internal).
