Subject:Help with Un-Installing Sound Forge from Windows XP-(maybe the Registry)

Does anyone know how to remove, (maybe from the registry), Sound Forge 5.02b on a Windows XP Machine ?? I had purchased Sound Forge and apaprently, there's already an installed version of the software, (5.02b), on my machine.
( I had the same problem before with Roxio Easy-CD Creator Basic 5.0 - pre-bundled from Dell), whereas, in order to get it off of my machine I had to literally remove files from the "C-Drive" and remove entries from the registry, which both Dell and Roxio have explicit well written Tech Articles as to how to remove "Easy CD Creator", on it... (Funny, cause all I wanted to do at the time, was to upgrade to their Platinum version of the software.) Never before have I ever heard of having to remove software in that fashion and Windows XP's feature of "Add Remove Programs", would NOT remove the application. (as well as ver 5.02b of Sound Forge, either..)

Anyway, everytime I try install the version of the Sound Forge application I have, I receive an error message that states "that there's a "newer version" already on the machine--and to contact the vendor.." So I even tried, though unsuccessfuly , to remove it by way of: "Add/Remove Programs" from within Windows XP, and it still won't Un-Install.
I've even called Dell, but since they didn't bundle it on the machine to begin with they don't support it -- and I didn't see anything on Sonic Foundry's site, either as far as suggested methods of removal...

Anyone have any clue as to how to hack it from out of the WinXp registry ?? I'm an advanced user of computers so I hold no fears of "skiing the three black diamond slopes" of the Windows Registry. (Machine is: Dell Dimension 4300, Intel P-4, running Windows XP, 40GB HD, 256MB RAM.) -- Thanks !! I appreciate hearing any suggestions or shared experiences on the matter...

BigDaddy,

First off...I don't believe there is such a thing as Soundforge 5.02b. That number looks suspiciously like a Roxio software updater.

Also - never heard of Sonic Foundry "pre-installing" anything. How did this mystery version get onto your machine? Did you put it there or some vendor. Let's clear this up and then move on...

use a utility to ge rid of any reference of the recorder app your using. and note that XP has extensive backup ability with critical files for each installed program in a special folder. without using the applications individual uninstall program there will be enough leftover registry info to replace the missing info on the next re-boot you can also just check around when unistalling to see if the folders are being deleted after a re-boot.

also, don't forget, you must uninstall a previous version of the software before installing a new version beacuse of this feature. and go with NERO it is much more XP compatible.
adaptec sucks.
