Subject:SF 6 Price Increase?

All,

On May 7 when SF6 was released, I remember seeing a few posts in here with folks complaining about the "introductory" price of Sound forge at $129.95. Well - if ya thought that was bad - I just received a new email from SF "re-announcing" the introductory price to be $199.95.

Those of you who bought SF6 with Noise Reduction 2.0 got a wicked deal at $199.95...that combo price is now $299.99

The email is identical to the May 7th email - even the time window (ends June 7) is the same. This is one time that I am glad I didn't wait. Which begs the question - what's this thing going to cost on June 8?

Love SF6 at $129.95....really not sure at $199.95...definitely not worth the upgrade after June 8. (especially with no red book CD Burning) I am in Canada and after conversion - that's some big coin!

Cheers,

Cuzin B

Hmmm... That is a strange one... I received the first e-mail that contained the lower prices (special introductory offer of $129.99), but I did not receive the second one with the 'new' pricing. I have 3 different e-mail addresses that SF mails stuff to. No new pricing e-mails, nada...

Could the elusive second e-mail be a mistake, could Sonic Foundry really be raising their prices mid-promotion??
Sure sounds like it, but I have no personal proof. (Actually, isn't that illegal or atleast bad business practices??)

I actually decided to 'skip' version 6.0. I am a proud owner of Sound Forge 3.0 ~ 5.0, CDA, Vegas Audio 2.0 and Vegas Video 3.0. The new features that are in SF 6.0 are already covered in one of the other programs. Now if they included DAO recording, I'd pay whatever they wanted... :-)

Peace!

dcomo,

I couldn't decide if I should laugh cause I got a great deal or wonder if these guys have any brains at all. Do you really want to sell your devoted users on the new upgradeby putting out one price one minute and then a higher one the next minute?

Obviously, the powers that be either:

a) Offered a one week deal only.
b) Had their hand slapped by another department when the 129.95 was found to be too low.
c) SF must think this is the greatest upgrade ever to hit the street and they will up the price to ake a point.

I will choose b.

Don't get me wrong - the nondestructive editing in 6.0 was worth it to me. However in your case - looks like you have already spent enough on Soundforge to warrant passing on 6.0. I do wonder how the rest of the crew in here will take to this.

FYI - I received my second "intro" offer email from newproducts@sonicfoundry.com at 3:52 pm this aft.

Again - I am very happy I was able to purchase 6.0 at 129.95. Good value at that price but this is bizarre for those that decided to hang back for bit.

The first eMail listed prices for those upgrading from previous versions of Sound Forge. I'm assuming that price is still valid. The second eMail is a more generic offer to any Sonic Foundry users who do not already have a Sound Forge license. There is also another offer for those who aren't Sonic Foundry users at all ... $349.99 for a limited time.

Whoops...I guess I should stop editing audio for 5 minutes and wake the hell up and read a bit more...

You gotta admit - that second email is a dead ringer for the first one (with about 2 words changed)When I first saw this new email - I thought Whoa! I've seen this before (or have I ?)

Thanks for setting me straight...

I would really like to have both 6.0 and 5.whatever, but I think i'll stick with 5.whatever for now. Yeah, it's only $30 bucks more than what I paid for 5.0, but to be honest, it was just a year ago! That's too soon!

I already have the NR 2.0. I haven't had it for too long but i'm realizing just how good the noise reduction part is!

Yeah, it confused me at first too. I didn't even notice the different price in the second eMail until reading this thread and pulling it out of my trash folder. I figured they'd just sent out a second copy of the eMail and didn't look at it.

Now ... how do i tell Sonic Foundry to send me text-only eMail instead of HTML? Grrrrrrrrr.

You probably received duplicate mailings in error. We did not raise the price on the upgrades. There are different offers sent depending upon which version of Sound Forge (full or XP) you are using. Perhaps you guys registered both, and you received both offers when you should have only received one.

Ted,

That sounds about right for me anyway. I did purchase XP a way back and then I upgraded to 5.0. But - I would hope that with all the registration data that your company collects everytime I purchase/install or register my products, your customer database would be updated accordingly.

So since I purcahsed SF 6.0 - I shouldn't receive any mail at all about upgrade offers etc. I already bought it. Does that make sense?

So registered SF5 users were offered an introductory price of 129,- USD, right?

I have VV3, Acid3 and SF5 but did not receive any e-mail, even though the "send me infos on updates etc." option in my profile is checked.

Actually I find even 129,- USD too much for an update that mainly brings us non-destructive editing. Wavelab and Samplitude can do this for a very long time. For 129,- I think I'll stick with Samplitude Master, which will even offer VST (and VSTi!) support in the next upgrade :-)
