Subject:Create a break in music and save as track ( or file )

I am attempting to create CD's from old casette tapes ... some of the tapes had run together during recording. I am interested in placeing a marker or pause in the stream so I am able to create a music file for individual songs. I know this is laymans terms .. but if anyone has an idea of what I am attempting .. your haelp will be appreciated. Thank You/.
