I know this is kind of a grey area...............
I've got a Compaq Deskpro 500 mhz with 384 megs of RAM and have the opportunity to get a Deskpro 866mhz. Will this be much of an improvement? It would be nice if I could just max out the memory on the 866 and be cool. I do mostly acoustic guitar/vocals/bass AROUND the loops in Acid. Basically, I want to get away with as much audio based tracks in Acid as possible. I guess I could move the drum tracks to Vegas LE and work there. If I upgrade Vegas should I go with 2.0 or Vegas video?

I used to have the original Roland vs-880 - Does anyone know what the processor speed is on those? It just seemed so stable

you should be ok...but as always...faster is better...so i suggest getting a 1gig CPU...wether its AMD or Intel, thats up to you. I suggest AMD, but thats me.

also, nothing under 512 of Ram is suggested as well...

and one more thing, PLEASE dont be like others and get a Sound Blaster card...these cards suck for making music. get a M-Audio or Terratec.

The difference between 500 and 866 is about 57%. There are other factors that effect actual "computing speed" but say go for it.
