Hello, I do not know what sampling rate I should use to record from an 8-bit cassette to soundforge5.0 on my PC. Should I use a low or higher sampling rate then re-sample or dither to the required 44.1Khz before i save to CD? When should I resample or dither? Before or after processing the audio file I just want a satisfying answer to a basic question. Can you help? sincerely, examplaire@yahoo.com |

What kind of 8-bit tape is this? Are you doing an analog or digital transfer? Anyway, if you do an analog transfer, you should it to 16-bit, 44.1, process it, then burn to CD. Now, if it is a digital transfer, covert to 16-bit, 44.1. With the sound of 8-bit, I highly doubt you will get any benifits from going any higher than that. You don't want to process in 8-bit because not only will it not work, you will probably make things worse. |
