Subject:Ripping LP's to MP3

Hi folks.

I want to rip the best bits of my 500 or so LP's to MP3 format. I have seen a product from Steinberg called "clean" which is (I quote) a 'Restoration & CD burning software plus USB phono preamp: Burn your music onto CD - without crackle or hiss'...

Anyone done this with ACID or Sound Forge? If so, how do we get away without the phono pre, and what Direct X of SF plugins are available to help on the restoration bit?

Thanks for any ideas....

You would need a turntable/stereo system with a "line output", or a turntable and a stand-alone phono pre-amp. You also want to have a good sound card. In either case, you must have the phono pre-amp. SF's Noise Reduction plug-in works great for restoration. In addition to the NR, it has a specific funtion for removing "clicks and pops".

YES, you need a preamp...i got a shure for $35 from a local shop. Record from it into your sound card one album
side at a time. process with NR, which works pretty well. When separating the songs, cut from the END of the file.

Denon makes a turntable for about $150 which has a built in preamp. It has switch to choose between lineout or normal turntable output and has worked well for me.

Sound Forge with DirectX plug-in called Noise Reduction, which has Click and Crackle Removal, Vinyl Restoration, and Noise Reduction.
A very good professional quality sound card would be Midiman M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496, which I am using right now, and have no problems with it!
