Each version since SF 4, I've been waiting for Foundry to get just a tiny bit more sophisticated with their CPU ab-usage. Speaking of the time counter during record. You can watch CPU usage on Win 2000 or XP Professional. The bar "Vu-Meter" takes little or no CPU. The counter on the main window also takes little or none. The counter on the record window FULLY SATURATES the CPU of even a 1.2 GHz machine. Why? Obviously, because the software is refreshing the label control on the record window with every sample, or at some other humongous rate of refresh. Necessary? No. From my experience with windows controls, if the refresh rate were set to 1 millesecond, it would give the highest resolution observable on the screen, and still leave gobs of CPU remaining. If it were set to every 1/10 second, it would suffice for any reasonable need of the on-screen control at run time. A trick I have always used (I don't like to turn off the control, because that deprives you of all information about recording time)--Just move the record window down so that the timing counter goes off the bottom of the screen. Presto--you have all your CPU back so you can convert a wav to mp3 in another process or whatever. Hey guys--reduce the refresh rate of the time counter label and give everyone their CPU for other stuff. |

Yeh same to me. I have the same experiences made. This is horror. 2GH machine and recording - Bingo 100% CPU usage. This can not be normal. Guys do somethign against this. |

The recording counter appears to be quite friendly. I can multitask quite well while recording. If some other processor intensive task comes up, the recording counter will pause to let the other tasks run. This has no effect on the recording in process. I've seen it slow down to about 2 updates a second for 10 seconds and the recording was still perfect. |
