I have a Compaq professional work station with dual PIII processors and 640mb of RAM.
However my acid only detects a PII single processor, drive space is ok and RAM detects fine but not the CPU. Has anyone else had this problem? If so how can I fix it? thanks in advance

Applications have to be written specifically to use double CPUs to benefit from them.
Also the system info from within applications are not always correct.
Guess Acid gets confused by the twin CPUs.
Don't worry about it if everything else is working OK.

how do you check to see what acid recognizes? I'm curious because I just upgraded my cpu chip.

ACID _is_ written to take advantage of SMP systems under Win2000/XP. (These are the ONLY OS that support ACID and SMP. If you are using Win9X, then you will never get any app to use Multiple CPUs). It always has been.

How are you determining that ACID isn't using two CPUs?

Cubase is the only app i know of that can utilize Dual Processors.....i never read anything about Acid utilizing it.

sounds like a mobo problem especially if you just changed cpu...makes me wonder if they match...intel uses different steppings in newer versions of their chips so adding a 0c to a 0b may cause difficulties...and of course you should'nt run different mhz cpus...

i would try:

1. confirm the cpu is properly recognized in the bios
2. confirm the cpu is properly transmitting its identity by using

cpuid: http://people.qualcomm.com/karn/code/cpuid/cpuid-3.3.tar.gz

or sandra: http://www.sisoftware.demon.co.uk/san_dem/html/dload_x86.htm

3. make sure the cpu is properly cooled...hot chips act strange
4. while you're in there change the cmos battery

i'm sure one of these guys will add to this is i've forgotten something

You just read it , because I said it. I wrote the code. Trust me.

ACID (and Vegas) have been supporting dual procs since day one and version 1 of their releases. Cubase only recently support NT/Win2000, so they are a bit behind the curve IMHO.
