Subject:Some other critical questions...

1. I renden my acid files as wavs and I send them in Soundforge and check the volume , then I burn them as audio cd with Nero5 but the volume is low, mutch lower from the original in Soundforge. Why this happens? what can I do? I have checked the line-in recording volume from my sound card but I cant do anything for that problem.
2. When I check ripped sound files from original-market audio cd I notice that the waveform have the same 'width' during the song. Thats the normalizer result or something else. What can do a normalizer plugin to make better the sound quality how can I use it.
3. How can I do mastering-compressing in soundforge because when I try it the sound quality was not so good. Is there any good plugin for that?
4. Which are the best settings in the preferences of soundforge 5 and acid pro 3 in a winXP Pro-PIII 733Mhz system with 512MB RAM and SB Audigy Platinum
Sorry for my Engish...and thanks.
Michael

None, of these questions can be easily answered in a forum and will take a lot of learning on your part. This is also, why you cannot go out and buy a few audio programs and think you're going to be an instant audio engineer and be able to elliminate professional studio services. Just like I can't go out and buy a paint brush and a few oil paints and expect to paint like Michael Angelo. Do some research, read the manuals, and start to experiment, and eventually all the questions you asked will start to become clear.

(Pssssst. Hey, Red........
........Michael Angelo is one word - Michelangelo. That's his last name. But don't worry, I won't tell anyone.)

That's a great response Rednroll and so true.
mstaras needs to develope a basic knowledge of audio and that comes thru reading and experimenting. I wish more people would invest the time to get the basics down before asking for the miricle answers in this forum.

Thanks Charles, Obviously those Humanity courses in college weren't my forte. My spelling stinks also, because I'm lazy in those aspects. But I can kick some serious butt, in those Calculus equations.

It would probably be helpful to direct the poster to some websites dealing with digital audio. I know enough about digital audio to be somewhat dangerous but only a danger to myself. "Recreational" use at this point and would also benefit from some good links. I try to keep a "beginners mind" and remember what it was like when I didn't know what questions to ask or where to look for answers.

While in calculus class in engineering school I was asked:
A person that is 6ft tall is walking toward a streetlight 12 feet tall at 3mph- how fast is their shadow decreasing?

my answer - who cares....

"Being an insomniac, dyslexic, agnostic who stays up all night wondering if there really is a DOG"...I hate spelling as well.

Steve,
you make a good point about posting some useful websites for information to help the person who posted the question out. I don't know any, maybe you could be so kind to spend the time and offer to post some? If I don't know something, I usually take the iniciative to goto my favorite search engine and search for information. If it was that easy, to post a link to a web address for every question on this forum, then I suppose we would all know how to master and mix audio, and be able to do brain surgery operations in our spare time.

Hey, now that's not fair. I learned how to do brain surgery by visiting medical related forums.

Michelangelo de la what?!

Sorry all, history was not my strongest subject, spelling, however, was a good one.

BTW - Did any of you guys ever make it to Differential Equations? That was my highest math course.

Yep, I have my Electrical Engineering degree and that's a required course. Problems and Statistics too.

Hey, Red -

Are Statics & Dynamics required courses for EE? I thought Dynamics was cool.

No, I think that's an ME requirement.

Thanks for your time guys ...yes i do need reading and experimenting thats what i am doing but some good links good be very helpfull. I am studing maths in a univercity of Greece and when someone ask me about a differential equations or statistics problem i give a short answer or a book to help him, i cant teach him maths from the begging ...thats what i was expected from the forum when i post these questions.

Ok, looks like you've got what you came for then, and everybody's happy. Next time, maybe you should ask "Where can I get some information on compression and mastering", instead of

"3. How can I do mastering-compressing in soundforge because when I try it the sound quality was not so good. Is there any good plugin for that?"

ok then, thanks, but for the first question do you have any idea? why sf and acid play the songs enough loud but when i burn it on audio cd it has lower volume?

Yes, because your sound cards mixer section, specifically the WAVE mixer is set at a higher setting than 0dB, therefore playback is louder, or if you also goto the same mixer section your CD Line Input setting may be set lower than 0dB, therefore decreasing the level on playback. Either or both may be the reason. Learn how to properly adjust your mixer section, by looking in the "help" file located on every windows operating system, and you should be able to fix this problem. Or if you prefer a link WWW.MICROSOFT.COM
