ok , is there a way to record the music from my stereo into my computer and sing along with it without having to play music through my external speakers and record me and the music through a desktop mic? hopefully i have worded this in a way that you can understand lol. if u know of a way please tell me what hardware , software and anything i will need to do so. i have my stereo hooked into my computer already.
just need to know a better way than recording out through the speakers and back through the mic.

You need a multi-track application for this. If you have the full version of Sound Forge 5, then you also have a license to use Vegas Audio 2.0 LE. This program supports up to 8 stereo tracks so you can put the music on one track and add your voice to it. You can even sing with yourself if you wish.

Alternatively, get a small mixer. You'll be able to combine the music from your stereo with your voice in one step and record them together.
