You can, but it ain't obvious.
1. Select "Options", then hold the shift key while selecting "Preferences".
2. Click on the "Internal Tab".
3. Search for a field called "ntDefVideoStillLength" (use the search box at the bottom of the window).
4. Change the default value (50,000,000 = 5 seconds) to whatever you want.

Then every time you add a picture, it will default to the new time.

Another interesting field is the "Default Transition Size" which changes the "snap-to" point when overlapping events. The default is 10,000,000 (1 second).

If you want to change the length of stills after they are on the timeline, you can group them (select all and hit "G") and then use the time-stretch feature to change their length.

Forgot my standard warning. Changing fields which you don't understand may result in a non-working program. If you get into trouble, you can reset *everything* to default values by holding the shift key while starting VideoFactory.

Regarding ripple edits, it sort of works like the "insert" key in a word processor. For a good description of ripple edits, check out the on-line help.

Hey Jim -
How the HECK did you figure that out?!
I'm impressed...
Now tell me: Where is the resampling feature for video and audio the online help refers to in VF2.0? It's supposed to smooth out effects like slow-motion and fast-motion for video/sound.

Well done Jimcho, you're a star. I'd been wondering how to do that and thought I was missing something obvious. Well, I was missing something alright but definitely NOT obvious :o)

Cheers,
Psiman

Resample was a switch in early versions of Video Factory. Now it's always used by default whenever the speed is changed. There's no way to turn it off.
