Subject:Sound Forge locks-up "freezes"

When I try to open Sound Forge it freezes and will only open if close "RUNDILL" in my start up tray.

It would say "Main Concept MPEG Audio Decoder"

"Now it says Scanning for audio plugins
Triangle II" in the small dialog box and "Totally freezes"

Then in the start up tray it says, "RUNDLL"

If I close this RUNDLL box, Sound Forge then will open fine. "Weird."

What is it? Didn't do this before. Should I, "reinstall".

Running W2k pro, AMD 1.9,Mobo GA-7DX+,2x 60 gig IBM 7500,512,
Running Sound Forge, VV3, ASID 3.0, SONAR 2.0 XL,Pixelan

Have any ideas?
Thanks, zflat Bob

What is Triangle II?

FWIW: Rundll is launched in order to enumerate through all audio plugins installed on the system. If a plugin is bad it can hang and cause the problem you are seeing.

Try uninstalling "Triangle II" and start again.

Thanks for the explanation.

I will do what you have suggested.

Again, thanks for helping.

Triangle 2 is a free trial DXi off of the cakewalk site. I haven't installed it yet and will wait and see if it really was the problem.

Yes, that was it, Thank you.

Tried to reinstall Triangle II again and the same thing happened again.
So now Triangle is uninstalled for now.

Now it is back to freezing on "Main Concept MPEG Audio Decoder"
What is that? I knew what Triangle II Dxi was, but what is, "Main Concept MPEG Audio Decoder"? Do you think that is a SONAR Dxi conflict also? Have any ideas?

When I try to open Sound Forge it freezes and will only open if I close "RUNDLL" in my start up tray.

I am new to all of this, so I may be screwing something up. Keep that in mind when evaluating this situation, and this Triangle Dxi for your own use.

Thanks, zflat Bob

I have been getting similar freezes. I dont see the little box that shows what is hanging it. I get the following sequence:
01. forge xp splash
02. grey popup saying "scanning for audio plug-ins..."
03. forge splash disappears
04. forge stops responding
05. rundll stops responding

I have removed all the DXi I can find. A short while after rundll stops responding, I sometimes get the following blue screen error, from which I can 'continue normally':

An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C0031A60 in VXD ---. This was called from 0028:C00301F9 in VXD ---.

I know this might not be a forge problem, but forge consistently produces it; any help finding the actual culprit would be greatly appreciated! Forge doesnt run with this happening.

I am running the latest DX drivers, latest Audigy drivers. Creative Wavestudio (came with audigy) sometimes has trouble like this, but often just starts up and runs. Forge never runs.

:(
