Is it even possible in Sound Forge 5.0 to take a normal song with vocals and convert it to instrumental only? Any help would be appreciated.

No. I f you want a half-*ssed method, there is always a vocal remover plugin available on some sight (I think it's analogueX), but I tried it and there is tons of bleed-through, really not professional.

Kelly, it cannot be done.
