Major prob - when I'm playing back a track at the moment I get half way through when the system freezes and crashes with the message that I've run out of virtual memory. I'm running Acid Pro 3.0f on a PIII 1Ghz with originally 256mb of RAM. I've upped the memory to 384mb but it still has the same issue. The virtual memory is set by the system to mean I have 904mb in total.

The acid song that has issues uses about 30 loops over the course of the song. Do I need even more memory or is there something wrong?

There is an used/available ram indicator in the lower right section in Acid (Pro).
It goes red whenever you run out of ordinary ram.
I have had a couple of hundred drum loops inside Acid (just for editing, not playing) and regularly have 5-10 beatmapped tracks + 20-30 loops playing at the same time without problems.
I also have 256MB on a 1.7Ghz system so you should not run out of ram.
It appears that your system somehow does not use regular/virtual ram in a correct manner. Try to defrag and set your virtual ram to a fixed size, a defragger like Disk-keeper is good and fast, there is a review at

You can use it free for 30 days, plenty of time to defrag a couple of drives.

Sometimes the "out of virtual memory" message is actually related to a disk space issue. Example: Your virtual memory (swap file) size may be at 904MB but if you only have 10MB of disk space available you will get this error. The "swap file" is used to some degree regardless of the amount of RAM in the system.

If you set the minimum and maximum size be sure to set them high enough. Some people recommend 2 to 2.5 times your RAM.
